We are looking for live-in carers to join our team. We are a private domiciliary care agency based in Cumbria offering support to those that live in the Furness and South Lakes peninsula. After 12 years of delivering an outstanding service within the community we are expanding our service offering to include live-in care, to enable our clients and others to remain in the comfort of their own home.

What we are looking for is compassionate individuals to join our already amazing team. The role includes personal care tasks, medication prompt, light household duties, meal preparation and assisting clients to access the community to live a fulfilling life.

Some of our clients enjoy gardening or visiting local garden centres, tasting the delights at local eateries and socialising with family and friends. We are looking for caring individuals who will fit into family life and help the client feel at ease. Driving is not essential as we have good train links close by. Candidates will need to be willing to receive on-going training and have a passion for working with others. Candidates must have a minimum of 2 years’ experience working with older adults and preferably experience with Dementia care.

Roles and Responsibilities

Main Duties:

  • To develop a good working relationship with clients to encourage them to express their needs, wishes and preferences, and be able to talk about any concerns they have
  • To respect the clients rights to privacy and ensure that their dignity is always maintained
  • To be flexible and responsive to the needs of the client as set out in their care plan
  • Promote and support independence and a healthy lifestyle
  • Provide personal care in a sensitive and dignified way. This may include assisting with bathing, showering or supervision with these tasks
  • To assist with general activities of daily living, which may include accessing the local community, attending local church services or accompanying clients to see family
  • Medication, prompts, collection and ensuring safe handling
  • Shopping, grocery shopping and arranging online deliveries
  • Meal preparation, cooking and serving nutritious meals and snacks
  • Domestic tasks including light housework, laundry and bed changing
  • Support clients with meeting their spiritual and cultural needs
  • Contribute to client reviews through verbal and written reports
  • Support clients with individual activities and needs which may include moving and handling and the use of equipment associated with such tasks
  • You will be responsible for reporting any concerns of suspected or actual abuse to a client to our management immediately, who will report this to our safeguarding team

Person Specification:

  • A minimum of 2 years care experience
  • Good verbal communication skills and the ability to listen
  • Good written skills and the ability to keep written records
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • A basic understanding of other people’s needs
  • Ability to provide a sympathetic approach, emotional and practical support
  • A common-sense approach to problem solving and the ability to deal with conflict and distress
  • Ability to work confidently with direct supervision within a client’s home
  • Acceptance to complete monthly online training

Experience:

  • A minimum of 2 years experience in providing care and support
  • Experience of working with and relating to people from a wide variety of backgrounds, preferably with experience of older adults

Personal profile:

  • Willingness to work flexible hours according to clients needs, usually minimum one week on shift at a time. Shift patterns will be discussed during interviews
  • Willingness to participate in regular supervisions, complete any necessary record keeping and ongoing training
  • Have the physical ability to be able to support clients with their physical needs including using any specialist mobility equipment
